Two-Face is one of Batman's greatest enemies. He was originally a good friend of Batman before he injured part of his face and went crazy.
He was originally going to be in the show, but he was cut out because he was too gruesome. He appeared in DC Comics' Batman '66: The Lost Episode, based on the story treatment written by Harlan Ellison. He was portrayed as a reporter instead of a DA.
He also appears in animated form in the direct-to-video movie Batman Vs. Two-Face, voiced by William Shatner.
History of Potential Appearance in the Show
When the show was in it's early stages, Two-Face was a villain the creators considered adapting. However, they felt that he would be too grim for younger audiences, so the character was shelved. In 1968, as the show's ratings dwindled, the writers and show runners pondered adding new villains to the show. Two-Face was one of their first choices, along with the Scarecrow. The writers decided to make him a News Anchor instead of Gotham's District Attorney, and his accident was the result of a stage light explosion. Science fiction author Harlan Ellison wrote a story treatment for the character's introduction, and actor Clint Eastwood, who starred alongside Eli Wallach in The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, was in talks to play the role in 1968. The show was canceled before this could happen, and it is unknown whether or not the character would have appeared.
Ellison's story treatment was adapted into the comic special Batman '66: The Lost Episode by DC Comics.
Batman Vs. Two-Face
In 2016, it was announced that the second direct-to-video movie based on the classic Batman series would pit the Caped Crusaders against Two-Face, and the duplicitous villain would be voiced by William Shatner. Speculation originally had been made that Harlan Ellison's unmade script would be the basis for the new movie, but it was decided that a new story would be crafted by WB Animation's James Tucker and Michael Jelenic. The movie was released on October 17, 2017.
